XAMPP web development environment

XAMPP is a multiplatform web server , totally free and free software that mainly offers us an environment to develop web pages under PHP, MySQL, Perl using Apache server.

XAMPP is available under the GNU license and is a very complete free web server, easy to install and configure with support for different operating systems such as Windows, Linux or MacOS X.

The package has some extra tools such as phpMyAdmin to manage databases quickly and easily. It also includes the OpenSSL module so we can use XAMPP in HTTPS mode .

The installation is very simple either on Linux or Windows, since you can choose to unzip the zip or tar file from the XAMPP package and with two clicks you already have the web server running. In Windows it also has an installer version. The installation / uninstallation is one of the most outstanding features of this package, since the simplicity is incredible.

XAMPP is primarily designed to develop web projects or test projects on a local server before launching them to the public.

Another feature that makes XAMPP the ideal web development environment is its control panel that offers us information about the state of the server at all times and allows us to make configurations quickly. The control panel is available only for the Windows version although the Linux version includes a series of scripts that also facilitate server management and configuration.

XAMPP for Linux.

The Linux version has the following programs and modules: Apache, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, Perl, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, GD, Freetype2, libjpeg, libpng, gdbm, zlib, expat, Sablotron, libxml, Ming, Webalizer, pdf class, ncurses, mod_perl, FreeTDS, gettext, mcrypt, mhash, eAccelerator, SQLite and IMAP C-Client.

XAMPP for Windows.

The Windows version has the following programs and modules: Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, eAccelerator, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.

XAMPP for MacOS X.

The MacOS X version has the following programs and modules: Apache, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, SQLite, Perl, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, GD, Freetype2, libjpeg, libpng, zlib, Ming, Webalizer, mod_perl, eAccelerator.

XAMPP for Solaris.

The Solaris version has the following programs and modules: Apache, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, Perl, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, Freetype2, libjpeg, libpng, zlib, expat, Ming, Webalizer, pdf class.
